FAST: Fully Autonomous Sentry Turret

Turret Trackers: Patrick Croom, Kevin Neas, Anthony Ogidi, Joleon Pettway Georgia Institute of Technology School of Electrical and Computer Engineering ECE 4007 - Dr. David Keezer www.ece.gatech.edu This is a compilation of our senior design demonstration videos. The Turret Trackers design group has designed and developed a proof-of-concept prototype Fully Autonomous Sentry Turret (FAST) system. This system is an autonomous, area protection, anti-personnel sentry turret with integral Identify Friend/Foe capability. In its simplest form, the FAST system is composed of a standard web camera connected to a commercial notebook computer using a custom software package to detect and track sources of movement while ignoring motion sources designated as friendly. This tracking information will be passed to a series of servo motors which will align the attached firearm to point and fire at the motion source. For this prototype design, an optical range low power laser pointer was used in place of the gun for testing purposes. Two distinct IFF systems were incorporated into the overall system. The first was based on color, allowing properly uniformed personnel to pass safely through the systems field of view. The second used an IR transmitter to send an encoded IFF signal to the system, again allowing safe passage. Song: New Divide - Linkin Park
